Oh what to do, what to do! I've been actively seeking employment for the past few months. I check back with the places I apply to all of the time. I don't know if i'm doing something wrong or not but it seems that they just don't want to hire me! I've got a ton of Customer Service skills along with a few years of Technical Support in a computer technology field. I know California has one of, if not the highest unemployment rates in the United States but sheesh. A person would think that with my qualifications I would be able to find SOMETHING!
If you have an idea that you think might help me, please feel free to comment below.
The job hunt is tough dood, but keep your chin up and keep goin. You'll get hired somewhere, just keep applying. Last time I was jobless lasted for a long ass time. Ended up having to work as a waiter to make some quick cash till someone decent hired me. . . . just keep at it. And make sure you look DAMN good when you go to interviews.. >:3
ReplyDeleteSame boat I'm in for a whole year now. It super sucks. I even took a course on marketing my enjoyability but where I am is just dead. Ruined economy doesn't help either. They suggested networking like crazy with facebook, using twitter and other online stuff. The problem is that when they need a new person, they hire from within, or ask their friends if they know anyone FIRST. Taking in resumes of random people is the LAST thing companies do here in NA.
ReplyDeleteI know some people in the UK and there companies are not allowed to do that, every position MUST be advertised and have a CV(euro resume) collection and interview.
But yeah, as it is, in my town every single job posted gets at least 800 resumes. You can't tell me any person, no matter how professional they are, is going to seriously look at each one. You have to have something that really stands out, sadly. That's what I learned, but in all honesty, my employment consultants told me to leave the town I'm in cause it really is that bad here.
Dude, don't feel bad, I've been there... It's a numbers game, apply for as much stuff as you can and you'll get something guaranteed.
ReplyDeleteYeah, don't let it get you down, I've been doing the same, I drop my resume everywhere and I still get no phone calls for interviews, life sucks.
ReplyDeleteI kept trying and trying and finally lucked out. Make sure they know you're flexible.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea how to help you but I'm in the same situation :/
ReplyDeleteit just took time and patience for me....lots and lots of patience always sucks like this when the economy is down. wish you luck though for what ever good it will do!
ReplyDeletea lot of people are having a hard time finding jobs. i guess when its meant to be youll find one, hopefully soon
ReplyDeleteThis is happening everywhere. The economy sucks, and there's no way around it. You probably might need to start at a warehouse or fast food.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it took me 7 months to find a shitty part time job. It sounds like you're doing everything right, so just keep at it.
ReplyDeleteYou have to approach and face-to-face with the manager as soon as you step into the store.
ReplyDeleteI'm in MD and have to deal with the same shit. College degree isn't helping much right now either.
ReplyDeleteMcDonalds. Seriously. One of the issues I keep running into is a lack of experience. So you're going to start in fast food.
ReplyDeleteI know what your going through man, I'm in the same boat...I'm in jersey, opposite ends of the country, but its all the same. I just quit Staples out of morale code.. but I can't find anything! Following and supporting.
ReplyDeleteI feel you, man. I'm from california, too and I am doing horribly at finding a job. Best of luck to you.
ReplyDeleteJob market is super tough right now, so I'd be less worried about what your qualifications are, and more worried about how your potential employers perceive you. Think of your resume as a sales pitch, but you are the product. You have approximately five seconds of a bored HR associate's time to make an impression. Use color. Pay for decent paper. List your most impressive accomplishments first, even if they are out of chronological order. Also, with resume's it helps to keep them short. Make the bastards wonder a bit about you because it will give them things to ask in an interview. Give them the necessary info and the things that will really impress them, but don't give them everything you have ever done. They don't want a novel, they want to be impressed. Also describe your jobs by your accomplishments, not by what you were told to do. Hopefully you find that somewhat helpful.
ReplyDeleteI feel for you. England is a nightmare right now. Unless you know someone who can sort you out a nice position then you're doomed to work at McDonalds. Hell, even Mcdonalds won't take you if you're overqualified.
ReplyDeleteThe only easy job to find is telemarketing. Personally I won't stoop that low.
Been on the same boat as you for over three months now. It's a pain in the ass.
ReplyDeletethe job market is really though but what can you do about it
